Jointly
organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Cheung
Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited and solely sponsored by
CKI, the symposium took place on November 18, 2003 at the Chiang
Chen Studio Theatre in Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong
Kong. We were delighted that there were over 200 participants
for both morning and afternoon sessions. Quite a large number
of delegates were from government departments of HKSAR, such
as Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Fire Services
Department, Environmental Protection Department, Architectural
Services Department, etc and there were, of course, interested
parties who came from commercial sectors. The symposium ran
very well and very good feedback was received.
The
quality of the event was guaranteed with the participation
of our 11 distinguished guest speakers who are well-known around
the world for their professional achievement. The symposium
was opened by Professor K P Wong, Head of Electrical Engineering
Department of the University at 8:55 am and right after that
Mr Thomas Chow, JP, the Deputy Secretary for the Environment,
Transport and Works Bureau delivered his keynote speech. Other
honorable speakers came from:
- Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited,
- Civic Exchange,
- Dynetek Industries Ltd,
- Environmental Protection Department of HKSAR,
- Ford Motor Ltd,
- Hong Kong Polytechnic University,
- ISO/TC 197 Hydrogen Technologies,
- Stuart Energy,
- Tsinghua University

Their presentations were excellent, and some can
be viewed or downloaded at the Online Proceedings section.
Another highlight of the symposium was the power generation
demonstrations run during coffee breaks. Delegates could see
how hydrogen was turned into power to run light bulbs.

The event was also graced by the presence of Mr Lambert Leung,
Chief Executive Officer of CKI Materials and Mr Don Johnston,
Executive Director of CKI Materials Group. The symposium ended
in deafening applause after Mr Barrie Cook’s closing address.
